Nancy Krauss Obituary, Longtime Resident Of Sevierville, TN, Has Sadly Passed Away

Nancy Krauss Obituary, Death –  A long and fruitful life was lived by Nancy Ruth Krauss, who resided in Sevierville, Tennessee. She passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. Her parents, George Gordon Proffitt and Willa Mae Lanning, as well as her brothers, George Dale Proffitt and John David Proffitt, passed away before her. Her husband, Richard Palmer Krauss, Sr., also passed away before her.

She is survived by her son Richard Palmer Krauss, Jr. and his wife Rebecca, who reside in Frederick, Maryland; her daughter Elizabeth Krauss Leverone and her husband Paul, who reside in Nellysford, Virginia; her four grandchildren, Timothy Krauss and Olivia, Abby and Harry Leverone; and her siblings Jane (Don) Huskey, Glenn (Linda) Proffitt, Norma (Gayley) Hester, and Wesley (Kay) Proffitt.

After completing her studies at Hiwassee College, Ruth went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Carson-Newman College, from which she graduated in 1959. Following her graduation, Ruth began her career as an elementary school teacher in Tennessee. Subsequently, she relocated to Bel Air, Maryland, in order to take a new position. While she was there, she met her future husband, who was a young lawyer. They tied the knot on August 25, 1962, and went on to have a wonderful life together for a number of years till her spouse passed away in 1986.

Following the passing of her husband, Ruth relocated back to Sevierville in the year 1988. She remained in Sevierville for the rest of her life, where she enjoyed many lovely years spent surrounded by her family and close friends. In addition, she took pleasure in teaching Sunday school and being an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sevierville, where she was a member of the Christian community. Ruth possessed a strong faith and a deep affection for the members of her church family.

To a great number of individuals, Ruth was a variety of things. At the same time that she was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, sister, daughter, educator, and friend, she was also a woman of religion. She had a reputation for being a good friend to a large number of people, as well as for her brilliance, her ability to create stories and recite poetry, and her sense of humor. Her family and friends will miss her dearly because she was so much loved and will be greatly missed by them.

Shiloh Cemetery in Pigeon Forge will be the location of the graveside service and interment that will take place on Saturday, January 20 at 2:00 PM. On Saturday, March 30, 2024, at two o’clock in the afternoon, a Memorial Service will be held for family and friends in the West Chapel of the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville.
